On Thursday, May 26, the County College of Morris (CCM) hosted U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill on a tour of the college’s state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Center (AMEC) and a Q&A session on workforce development and job readiness programs.
During the tour, Buttigieg and Sherrill learned about the many programs offered by the college’s Center for Workforce Development, and the populations the facility serves. These populations include Morris Vocational School Share Time students, individuals participating in the college’s apprenticeship programs, and those seeking industry-recognized certificate programs.
During the Q&A session, Buttigieg and Sherrill responded to questions from political officials, industry leaders, and CCM students. CCM President Anthony Iacono moderated the session.
The visit was intended to highlight and increase awareness about how community colleges can be supported in their efforts to expand workforce development opportunities through innovation and initiatives.
CCM is currently partnered with over 50 manufacturing companies to provide pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, and other workforce development programs to its students.
